Ox-Bow 2006

My work straddles the disciplines of printmaking and painting. I layer paint on wood panels and use wood cutting tools to draw through wet paint to alter the surface of the wood. The work during my residency continued this process to build a series of paintings that are portraits of the natural world. These paintings are a record of a specific place without being illustrative. I am interested in making abstract paintings that are inspired by lichens, shorelines, and ferns. This project continues the work I have created over the past fifteen years, focusing on color relationships while pushing the range of textures and mark-making.
